Darryl Sutter to focus on coaching

Kieran Thomas

GM, Calgary Flames

After leading his Calgary Flames to game seven of the Stanley Cup finals as head coach and general manager, Darryl Sutter has decided to focus on coaching rather than his general manager role. "It's too big a challenge to run both jobs. I was happy to do it because it opened up a bit more money for signing players, but the ownership is ready to spend a bit more money to solidify our management team" said Sutter.

The Calgary Flames hired an unknown general manager throughout the hockey world, having had 2 years experience in previous junior leagues. He has won at every level and they believe can continue where Sutter left off and lead this franchise to the promised land. And so, the Calgary Flames announced Kieran Thomas as their new general manager.

"It's an honour to work for such an organization, especially after the recent success they had during the playoffs. My goal will be to keep the Flames a dominant team in the NHL, and not follow course with other "cinderella" teams such as the Carolina Hurricanes and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks." said new general manager Kieran Thomas at a press conference earlier this morning.

Thomas is known as a heavy dealer, and will likely want to move a few players to add some offensive depth to the team. "The Calgary defense and goaltending is one of the best in the league. However, the offense will need to be worked on, some pressure has to be removed from Jarome Iginla" Thomas was heard saying.
