Hawks not budging from rebuild

Mathias Vaigur

GM, Chicago Blackhawks

DAILY HERALD - The Hawks fired Bob Pulford just a couple weeks ago, and today the search for a general manager ended, as the team presented Mathias Vaigur as there new general manager. Mathias Vaigur a native Swede, was a surprise to most journalists and fans. But GM Vaigur quickly calmed people when he in his short presentation mentioned that he had no intention on turning the Hawks into a European style team, or leave the road to rebuild.

"I am not here to rip the heart out of team. I am not hired to turn this team into a direction that leads nowhere. I am here to build a young, strong team that comes to play each and every night. I will not trade young up and coming stars like Tuomo Ruutu, Brent Seabrook or Tyler Arnason. I am here to build the team around them. I will also look into getting this team some solid leaders that will help mold the young players, into hard working players that play for each other. Therefore my first order of buissnes will be to hire former Blackhawk Stu Grimson, as assistant coach to mr Brian Sutter." - Mathias Vaigur said at the press-conference.

When asked if he would keep Brian Sutter behind the bench, GM Vaigur simply said. "No decision has been made yet. I will sit down with Brian this week, and we will so how things works out. Now I thank everyone for coming out such a hot day, and I am sure we will see each other a couple more times over the years..."

It looks like the Hawks will continue to rebuild, but will the fans demand a playoff spot this season? Or will they rely on there new GM and trust him in his effort to rebuild the once proud franchise? Only time will tell.
