New York City, New York (AP)-
Word was given late last night that LW Paul Kariya decided to use is no trade clause and block the deal that sent him and defensemen David Tanabe to Detroit. It took Kariya less than 12 hours to make his mind up.
Kariya’s agent was quoted by saying, “Paul came to the Rangers this off-season to win and currently the Rangers are in the thick of things.”
The purposed deal was to bring in LW Ray Whitney, D Dick Tarnstrom, C Matt Lombardi, RW Steve Bernier, and a second round pick in 2007.
Hamblin made a statement after there 2-1 loss to Buffalo last night,
“It was disappointing that he wouldn’t waive his no trade clause. It shows that he has heart and wants to stay in the big apple and bring the Rangers fans a cup.”
Now we will have to see what goes on with the Detroit deal, is dead now?
