Eastern Rivals draw even with the Devils

Dylan McLaughlin

GM, New Jersey Devils

After tonight's 1-1 tie game Scott Neidermayer only had three words for the Boston Bruins, "To be continued." The season series between these two is over and Neidermayer is obviously pointing at a possible rematch between the two powers in the Eastern Conference championships.

The story tonight was an unbelievable performance from Miikka Kiprusoff. The Devils unleashed their dogs of war in the the first and made life hell for the Bruins. It was an onslaught for most of the period but the home side came away with nothing. The frustration seemed to fill the building as Devil players pounded their sticks into the ice and flung the jagged remains into the stands.

In the second, the Bruins struck suddenly 9 minutes in silencing the crowd. Less than 5 minutes later, Elias made a brilliant pass to Kozlov who only needed to re-direct the puck past Kiprusoff.

The goalies took back control of the game and the Bruins wrestled the game's momentum away. Brodeur was tested on several point blank shots late in the game and as he has done so many times this season, he slammed the door shut.

In what seemed like a carbon copy of this game, New Jersey took on the Ottawa Senators last Monday. Fighting for their playoff lives, the Sens needed a great game and they got it from their goalie. Pasi Nurminen, like his country man Kiprusoff, is acrobatic and he put on a clinic against the Devils. The game finished tied 1-1.

New Jersey heads to Times Square Friday night for a meeting with the Rangers. And with the Devils still visibly upset from the frustration in tonight's Bruin game, the Rangers better be prepared for some explosions.
