OTHL Headquarters - Trading had been dying down since the first OTHL entry draft took place a couple of weeks ago but trading is starting to pickup again. The biggest trade of the day involved the Phoenix Coyotes and the Vancouver Canucks. Phoenix had been under new management with Dennis Jorgensen leading the way as GM for just one day and he made a big splash today.
Phoenix traded small, crafty center Mike Comrie, their best player and leader, Shane Doan and a highly touted young centerman by the name of Jeff Taffe to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for one of the best players in the league, Markus Naslund along with the up and coming Sedin twins.
The trading of Markus Naslund did catch a few people off guard but inside sources say that he was not happy ever since Todd Bertuzzi was dealt to the Sharks. Markus has been the Canucks captain for several years now and this could mark the beginning of a new era in Vancouver. Neither player was available for comment at the time and both teams issued statements to setup press conferences tomorrow when the players arrive in their new cities.
In other trade news it is rumoured that a deal involving Chris Pronger going to a Western Conference was almost complete but fell apart at the last minute due to some unforeseen mishaps. ESPN is reporting that Pronger is still likely to switch teams within the next few days and still insists it will be into the Western Conference. Time will tell.
