Detroit, MI (AP)-
The Wings ended up picking up loads of youth in the latest trade that happened less than 24 hours from the draft. The Wings traded away goalie Manny Fernandez, defenseman Tom Poti, and the 7th overall pick to the Los Angeles Kings
Who did the Wings pick up?
One of them was veteran forward Chad Kilger scored 32 points last season and will fill a void this upcoming season for the Wings.
“I’m really proud to be part of Detroit, I know they are in a hard spot trying to re-make the team and go towards the younger mentality but with the knowledge of Neil (Burkholder) they will be successful it just takes time”, said Kilger on WDFN with Stoney and Wojo.
The youth of the deal is what can make Detroit salivate with the loads of potential they picked up. The wings finally might have picked up the franchise goalie in Hannu Toivonen . The Finnish native is big in the net and can become dominating in the upcoming future.
The other big name future star the Wings picked up was Jeff Tambellini. Jeff is a great two way player and can become one of the cornerstones for the Wings in the upcoming future. Jeff only played in 10 games this past season and scored 3 points. Expect his role to increase with the Wings in the upcoming years.
The last key piece the Wings grabbed defensive prospect Mark Mitera. Many believe he can be a dominating six foot three defensive stop gap for the Wings. The local Royal Oak native was histatic when he heard he will be playing with the Wings this upcoming season
Now the Wings have one mid round selection, and one late first round selection for the first day of the draft tomorrow and it will be interesting to see how the Wings will draft.
