Dethroned Kings start rebuild

Trevor Maughan

GM, Los Angeles Kings

It didn't take long for new Los Angeles Kings GM Trevor Maughan to clean house. Just mere hours into his new position, Maughan had completely retooled his scouting staff and started the process of addition through subtraction. With that, the Kings set forth to strengthen the future of their club.

"From where we were Tuesday, we've made some big progress," said Maughan via conference call yesterday. "We addressed our biggest concern which was our youth. Now we feel a little more comfortable going into next year."

The Kings war room was a very busy place this week, as the league trade deadline officially ended yesterday. Long hours were logged going over various sheets, crunching numbers and talking with different GM's.

The Kings most notable trade took place with the Philadelphia Flyers, in which they parted with Lithuainian born Danius Zubrus and prospects Brian Boyle and Scott Parse. In return, the Kings received highly touted prospects TJ Oshie and Stefan Ruzicka as well as young defenseman Jussi Timonen and a 2nd round draft pick. Other trades saw them acquiring defensive prospect Bobby Sanguinetti, speedy forward Jeff Tambellini and goaltender Dimitri Patzold.

As of now, it appears that the offseason will prove to be a quiet one for the Kings. "We're taking everything in stride. We have a three year plan in place for this team and at times it might seem slow and painful for fans. The only thing that we can ask if for their patience. We will right this ship, it's just a matter of time."
