(Montreal, PQ) -- The Montreal Canadiens kicked off the free-agent season by strengthening the nature of their club.
The Habs signed unrestricted free agent grinder Aaron Downey to a two-year contract yesterday, as well as re-signing veteran unrestricted free agent center Tim Taylor to a two-year deal.
"The addition of Downey adds some much needed grit to our roster and deepens our team," said Canadiens head coach Claude Julien. "In Taylor, we keep a valued asset and a strong leader. We wanted to get him locked up soon, but we're happy he's decided to stay with our club."
The Canadiens, meanwhile, are rumored to be pursuing several other free agents, however management has refused to comment on that subject.
