Scary incident leaves Habs GM shaken

Dave Pagnotta

GM, Montreal Canadiens

(MONTREAL, QC) -- As the Montreal Canadiens wrapped up a convincing 3-0 victory over the Calgary Flames tonight, general manager David Pagnotta left the game early due to an uncertain injury.

Pagnotta, a Montreal native, was watching the game from a press box when he suddenly fell over holding his left eye.

According to a reliable source close to the incident, Pagnotta temporarily lost vision in that eye and was immediately taken to hospital.

"All of a sudden, my eye started to get blurry and then boom, it was all bright. I couldn't see a thing," said a shaken veteran GM. "It scared me quite a bit. Everything was fine, and all of a sudden I couldn't see out of it. Nothing hit it. I can't explain how that could've happened."

About five minutes after the incident started, Pagnotta began to regain a bit of sight, but only the top half of his eye.

"There was a dark shadow. I couldn't see from the bottom half of my eye. Shortly after, it faded away and everything went back to normal," he said.

Pagnotta has been temporarily diagnosed with a "retinal migraine," which does not cause long-term strains on the eye. More tests are expected in the coming weeks.

The Canadiens, meanwhile, shutout the Flames with goals from Andreas Johansson, Ziggy Palffy and Marco Sturm.

Palffy is second in the league in goals with 24 and ranks fourth in the league in total points with 48.
