One day after the Los Angeles Kings traded away their star netminder Nikolai Khabibulin in a blockbuster trade. Mathieu Garon became the new starter for the Kings. However, his glee of finally being on a good team suddenly vanished today as he learnt from ESPN that he was traded to a Western Conference team. Along with prospect Oskars Bartulis, Garon was traded for a solid goaltender.
"We are extremely pleased with the new acquisition, we believe that trading away Khabibulin for Garon and then trading Garon gave us more options to find a different goalie in mind."
Possible reports of goalies are David Aebischer (Colorado), Manny Fernandez (Detroit), Marc Denis (Edmonton) and Dwayne Roloson (Phoenix).
Reports of Garon heading to Pittsburgh for goalie Olaf Kolzig and backup goalie Jeff Freisen along with Jeff Carter and Patrice Bergeron were put to rest. "Although we like Kolzig, Bergeron and Carter, we felt we were getting the worse end of the deal because we would have been stuck with Friesen."
