Dallas Acquires Center Jeremy Roenick

Benjamin Yoskovitz

GM, Dallas Stars

Dallas Morning News
Dallas, Texas - July 7, 2005

In GM Benjamin Yoskovitz's first transaction as general manager of the Dallas Stars he reached out to acquire veteran centerman Jeremy Roenick. In exchange, he sent the team's 1st round pick in 2005 and 3rd round pick in 2006 to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

"We're very excited about bringing Jeremy to the Stars, and having a top duo of centers with Yashin," said GM Yoskovitz. "The loss of Zhamnov to the free agent market was a blow. We had talked about trying to bring him back, but we didn't want to rely on that, or on acquiring any other free agents either."

GM Yoskovitz ensured that some future considerations would come into play depending on Roenick's future with the team. His salary tops $7,000,000 and he has the possibility of being a free agent at the end of the season.

"With trades like this, we always want to try and protect ourselves a bit. But the bottomline is that we've made a clear investment in Jeremy for this season, and he's got a big role to play. Our hope is that he recognizes that investment and interest in him and resigns at the end of the year," said GM Yoskovitz.

When questioned about the upcoming draft, GM Yoskovitz said that his team of scouts and assistants would manage the draft, and he had full confidence in their abilities. As for future moves, GM Yoskovitz made it clear that once the draft was complete the Stars would look to dip into the free agent market and make further roster moves beyond that.
