FLYERS INK POWERFORWARD
The Philadelphia Flyers have reportedly signed powerforward Keith Tkachuk. Keith Tkachuk was recently released from the Boston Bruins. The Bruins had been unhappy with his performances and decided to buy out his contract. In Philadelphia GM Bo Siemsen had a different opinion and quickly submitted a contract offer to the free agent.
GM Siemsen said “We were made aware of the somewhat surprising situation in Boston. We submitted a contract offer and explained to the player the plans we had for the team and what his role would be. We’re happy that he liked the situation as we presented it to him. I dont believe we were the highest bidders ... but we have something to offer that noone does ... we’re the Philadelphia Flyers. When we heard of the situation we were immediately interested as we feel Keith Tkachuk represents something that we are looking to add to our team before next season – toughness, size, grit, leadership and willingness to get involved even if a few passes go astray or gets intercepted. Keith Tkachuk along with trade acquisitions Eric Cole and Andy Sutton will help change the attitude of our team. We’re going to be a tougher team to play against. Today was a good day for the Flyers organisation.”
NOTES
The signing of Keith Tkachuk casts a significant shadow over the future of veterans Robert Lang and Miro Satan. Satan i scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent but has been tendered an offer but needs to be reasonable with his demands if he wants to stay in Philadelphia. Robert Lang was a disappointment last season. He currently has 2 years left on his $5.5m contract. His role with the team is not likely be be decided until training camp ... he could be 2nd line center ... or he could end up the best paid player for the Phantoms. If he is still with the club that long.
