Carolina Courts Alexander Steen

Norm Donovan

GM, Carolina Hurricanes

RALEIGH - As the Carolina Hurricanes slunk home after yet another defeat on the road, rumours began spreading that GM Norm Donovan was trying to sign one of their many prospects to hopefully inject some life into the last place team.

Inside sources have indicated that Donovan has been in contact with the agent for Alexander Steen, a talented young forward acquired from the St. Louis Blues in August. Although neither party would confirm the negotiations, rumours abound that Steen is close to being signed to a pro contract and could suit up for the Hurricanes as early as next week's game against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

Steen, a 2-way forward with an offensive flair and the ability to play any forward position, would be a welcome addition to an offence plagued by inconsistency and lack of scoring depth. Although Steen alone would clearly not be enough to reverse the downward spiral the team has been in all season, he would gain valuable OTHL experience and - hopefully - keep a few fans in the seats at home.
