The regular season ended on a high note for the Phoenix Coyotes. The team managed to climb past the Detroit Red Wings for the second place in the Western Conference, thanks to only two losses in the last twelve games. In addition several players already know that they will be honoured with individual awards after the playoffs. Peter Forsberg in particual can look back onto a very successful regular season. At the leagues award banquette he can look forward to receiving at least three individual trophies. But, knowing Peter, he probably already has his eyes on another trophy.
Despite the very successful regular season, the Coyotes will have a tough playoff to look forward to. In the first round they will face the leagues currently hottest team, the Dallas Stars. Riding on a six game winning streak, the Stars are not satisfied with just making the playoffs. During the regular season the Coyotes won four of the teams six games against the Stars. Judging by the goals difference, not much is separating the teams though, as no game was one with more than two goals.
Andrew Raycroft and Dwayne Roloson might be hoping otherwise, but it looks like fans can look forward to a high scoring series, featuring the two top scoring teams in the Western Conference.
