Defense No Longer a Concern in "Big D"

Felix Morrison

GM, Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars seemed to have a nice bunch of forwards, but they were lacking in the defense compartment. It has been well known to Felix Morrison, the GM of the Stars, of this weakness and he didn't like it at all. I'm not a genius but I could do simple math. Looking at our old defense, we felt the numbers didn't add up. The defense wasn't near our expectations and the expectations of the fans. I felt we needed to upgrade the position without giving too much off our present roster.

With those words, Felix Morrison did just that. He made two bold moves in the last two days. The first one involved the New York Rangers. Highly touted goalie prospect Jason Bacashihua and a 4th round pick was shipped to the Big Apple in exchange for veteran Russian Boris Mironov.
Felix said Boris Mironov is a great player who will really help the defense out in many ways. He is very smart with the puck and understands how to play in our own zone. He brings more experience to an already aged team. He should fit in nicely with the group of guys we have here.

The second deal was by far the biggest. Sergei Samsonov. is no longer a Star, along with Richard Matvichuk and a 8th round pick. They were sent to the Island in exchange for rookie sensation Trent Hunter and solid defenseman Roman Hamrlik.
Felix had to say about the deal: I'm very sad and happy at the same time. Sammy and Richie will be very much missed. They were both liked by fans and players alike, and we're great competitors. However, when the opportunity arose to better the team I had to do it. We all feel that Trent Hunter will be an amazing goal scorer in the near future and Roman is one of the most underated dman in the league. We are glad to add such players to the team. We want to wish both Sammy and Richard the best in New York."

The Dallas Stars are still expected to make alot more moves in the future: This team has to get better in order to compete for the Cup. Our fans want the Cup and I will try my best to please them. They are the reason we all come to work every day, they are the ones that pay for the tickets. If an opportunity comes to better the team, I will be there to pounce on it. , added a very tired Felix Morrison.
