OTHL -- One of the most anticipated moments during the off-season started at midnight as the UFA period was opend. Now a large number of players is up for grabs, players looking for work and maybe a chance to win the Stanley Cup. Two of the most wanted players are Joe Sakic and Rob Blake, two of the leagues premier players who without a doubt will be able to pick and chose a team from a long list of teams around the league.
Joe Sakic (37) had a somewhat dissapointing year by his standards, as he only had 73 points in 83 played games. However, still good enough for 15th best in the entire league. Now the question everyone ask themselfs is, will Sakic sign for a top team looking for one more shot at the cup. Or will he look at a team where he could help teach the future of the league?
Early rumors claim that Sakic is chased by Boston, Florida and Pittsburgh with Vancouver and his former team Colorado as possibilities. But this signing could take time, as Sakic weigh one team against another trying to find the best team for his needs.
Rob Blake (36) was just like Sakic traded from Colorado last season. Blake ended up in Detroit where he played on a all-star stutied team along with Chris Pronger and other top names. But despite the big names, Blake and Detroit did not get past the first round of the post-season. Now new winds are blowing in Detroit, and Blake is looking for work. Will he get a new chance in Detroit, or will another top team throw the cash on Blake?
Blake only managed to score 5 goals last season to go with his 26 points. But will the stats throw off teams? no, Blake is still a premier defender and held in high regards around the OTHL. Blake has the skill, expperience and leadership to have teams throw top money after him this summer.
