PHILADELPHIA (Inquirer) -
After shopping the heart and soul of the team, Keith Primeau, for more than a month since his atrocious play has continued, Flyers GM Matt MacInnis pulled the trigger on a deal which sends the captain to the New York Rangers. Accompanying him is Brian Rafalski, the team's leading point scorer from the blueline, but who has faltered over teh past ten games where the Flyers have struggled as a whole.
In return for the physical centre and offensively minded d-man is Super Mario. Lemieux, who has two years left on his current contract and should bring a spark to the lethargic Flyers offence, most likely on a line with big man Mark Parrish and sniper Milan Hejduk.
Michael Handzus will most likely drop down a line to centre Geoff Sanderson and Tony Amonte in what should be a dangerous line with those two speed-demons along the flanks of the hulking Handzus.
Defensively, Jason York will get the call from the farm system to fill in for the departed Rafalski. With the American gone, Kim Johnsson will be called upon to increase his offensive play and Joni Pitkanen will see a larger role for himself on this team.
MacInnis spoke early this morning to the press about the team.
"Well, I'm still looking to do a few more things. Our fourth line could use some work, especially at LW I have to admit, and we could stand to tighten up our defence some more."
